Reykjadalur Valley is one of the most popular and stunning hiking areas in South Iceland, due to it’s proximity to Hveragerði and Reykjavík capital area (45-minutes drive from Reykjavík). Hot springs and colourful landscapes beaming with geothermal activity (Reykjadalur means Steam Valley) characterize this beautiful valley. The hot waters stream runs down the mountain range and creates a variety of hot pools where it’s possible to bathe in the serenity surrounded by nature.
You’ll need to take a hike to get to the bathing area. The trail is not very demanding and you’ll reach the warm river in around 45 – 90 minutes depending how fast you walk and how many stops you make on the way. The hike starts at a parking lot just above the town of Hveragerði and continues around Mt. Hengill. You’ll find signs with maps around the parking area and the trail is also marked along the way.
